Asthma and Weight Loss

At first glance, asthma and weight loss may not seem to be likely bedfellows. But actually the two are related inasmuch as being overweight and suffering from asthma together are an unhealthy combination. While the asthma itself cannot necessarily be so easily worked on, the weight problem can very much so. This means that such a person's health and severity of the asthma attacks can actually be greatly improved by reducing their weight. So this article takes an overview look at the connections between the two conditions and how the more simpler action of losing weight can bring many benefits to the health of the sufferer.

There is a sense that this is a often viewed as something that might end up being hard work. I'd guess that there is a fairly significant proportion of the population who is unsure about the connection I have already laid out. The easiest way to get ideas about how you can work on your health and lose some weight by boosting your fitness through exercise is to do some research online or even visit your local book store or library. Sometimes a good idea will make or break your whole plan. A healthy, fit and well toned body will be better equipped to deal with breathing problems, but the problem itself is how to do the exercises if the asthma condition leaves you short of breath. If you are particularly overweight, then anything more than very light exercise may be out of the question. But there are other things that you can do in the early stages to get the ball rolling. First of all though, we need to harness the power of motivation.

Sit down and think about your weight for a moment. How did you get to be so heavy and how long did it take to get to where you are now?

Once you can answer those questions, you might find that what you have been eating and drinking over an extended period of time may have a lot to do with it. And if a bad diet has been a major cause of the current problem, then common sense says that a shift in the way that you eat and drink for the better can similarly have the opposite effect of helping to reduce that weight.

Once you have made the right adjustments to your diet, you should spend the first few weeks of your new self-created program concentrating on letting the diet bring about sufficient weight loss so that you are then more able to start exercising. Once you start to be more active on a regular basis, even if the excercise is light, you will begin to boost your body's metabolic rate to a point where it can burn more of the calories that are going in through your food. I can't say for certain if it will make a huge difference but a program of fitness and exercise certainly can't hurt.

There's no time like the present to get things started. You're probably ready to get started with your attempt at getting slimmer and doing what is necessary to reduce your waistline. So get going right now and you might actually be pleasantly surprised at what you can achieve when you really put your mind to it. There are a lot of very good weight loss diets out there just waiting for you to make that decision to start helping yourself and under the right circumstances, you can be very successful despite your breathing condition. I once saw a person who obviously suffered from asthma looking good in a nice slim body of perfect size and actually suffering less from their breathing problems associated with the condition.

You may really just be along for the ride. I suppose you could master your weight easily enough when you make up your mind to do that. The way things stand right now it looks like the correlation between weight loss and asthma is mainly down to diet, although experts are divided on this. At the end of the day, your own health is completely in your own hands. While asthma is not so easy to find a cure for, or indeed even to find a reliable method of gaining lasting relief from, your weight can more easily be managed. And being at your correct weight, as we have seen, can actually go a long way to helping to reduce the asthma symptoms themselves.
